In line with its 2020 strategic plan to expand its R&D capability in France and internationally, the Institute for Technological Research (IRT) SystemX plans to forge new public-private partnerships with a view to working on new use cases in these two centres of innovation. The Lyon facility is led by Lionel Scremin while François-Xavier Lannuzel heads up the Singapore office.
Since it was established four years ago, the SystemX facility in Paris-Saclay has conducted 31 multi-partner research projects and four European projects, involving 200 full-time equivalent employees, 75 industrial partners (large companies, SMEs and startups) and 21 university laboratories. The next step for the IRT is to extend the reach of its applied research activities by co-locating with key stakeholders in territories outside Paris Region.
SystemX chooses the La Doua campus in Villeurbanne for its Lyon facility
Housing the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, three engineering schools (INSA Lyon, Polytech Lyon and CPE Lyon) and several university institutes of technology (IUTs), La Doua is one of the region’s leading research sites with almost 2,000 researchers based there.
SystemX will focus on key digital technology themes for the benefit of the entire Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Beyond the La Doua campus, SystemX will form research partnerships with the scientific centres of Grenoble and Clermont-Ferrand, working with the region’s research clusters focused on digital technologies compatible with the activities of SystemX, such as Minalogic and LUTB-RAAC.
The IRT’s first project will focus on smart territories in connection with Greater Lyon’s Smart City initiative. The aim is to develop decision-aid tools that harness the potential of urban data.
SystemX opens an international office in Singapore
The opening of SystemX’s office in Singapore follows on from the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore and the IRT during the French President’s state visit to Singapore in March 2017.
SystemX is starting off its activities in Singapore by participating in the CETRAN (Centre of Excellence for Testing and Research of Autonomous Vehicles) project. The aim of this five-year applied research project spearheaded by the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is to determine the conditions for the safe operation of autonomous vehicles in Singapore. It encompasses activities related to digital modelling and simulation of operational safety and digital security applied to autonomous modes of transport. SystemX will work on areas in which it has particular expertise, developed through its projects SVA (Simulation of Autonomous Vehicle Safety), CTI (Cybersecurity for Intelligent Transport) and ISE (Intelligent Transport Systems Security).
