Résumé

Artificial intelligence and digital twins are emerging as complementary forces in transforming engineering design. While digital twins capture and synchronise data from physical systems, AI brings the capability to interpret, predict, and generate knowledge from that data. Together, they form a powerful synergy: digital twins provide the dynamic context, and AI delivers the adaptive intelligence to drive data-driven design.
This keynote explores how this integration reshapes design processes across the lifecycle—from eliciting customer needs and modelling functions, to generating and evaluating concepts, to enabling real-time customization and optimization. By coupling digital fidelity with computational intelligence, AI and digital twins can accelerate innovation, reduce uncertainty, and enhance sustainability in design outcomes.
The talk also addresses challenges of interoperability, bias, and ethics, and highlights the importance of human–AI collaboration. Ultimately, the synergy between AI and digital twins points to a future where engineering design becomes more predictive, adaptive, and responsibly data-driven.
